What Is +EV Betting and Why It's Profitable Long-Term
Most sports bettors lose money because they bet based on who they think will win. Sharp bettors think differently โ they bet based on whether the odds offer value compared to the true probability of an outcome.
That's +EV betting: placing wagers where the potential payout exceeds the actual risk based on fair market odds.
How It Works
Every sportsbook sets its own odds. These odds include a margin (the "vig" or "juice") that guarantees the book a profit over time. But when you compare odds across 8 sportsbooks, you can find lines where one book's odds imply a lower probability than the true probability derived from the market consensus.
For example, if the fair probability of the Lakers winning is 55%, that translates to fair odds of roughly -122. If DraftKings is offering -110, you're getting a better price than the true probability warrants - that's a +EV bet.
How StackDubs Calculates EV
We use a devigging method that strips the vig from sharp lines across all 8 books to estimate the true probability of each outcome. Then we compare every available line against that fair value.
The formula is simple:
EV% = (Decimal Odds ร Fair Probability - 1) ร 100
Any bet with EV% above 0 has positive expected value. Over hundreds of bets, these edges compound.
Why It Works Long-Term
Individual bets can lose. That's variance. But if you consistently place +EV bets, the math guarantees profit over a large enough sample size. This is the same principle that makes casinos profitable - except this time you're the house.
Using the Kelly Criterion
StackDubs includes a Kelly calculator that tells you how much to bet relative to your bankroll. Quarter Kelly (our default) is conservative and protects against variance while still capitalizing on edges.
A +15% EV bet on a -110 line might suggest a $25 bet on a $1,000 bankroll. A +3% EV bet on the same line might suggest $7. Kelly sizes your bets proportionally to your edge - bigger edge, bigger bet.
Getting Started
Head to the +EV Bets page. Filter by sport, set your minimum EV threshold, and sort by EV% or Kelly. Every bet shown has been identified as having positive expected value against the consensus fair line.
The edge is in the math. Stack your dubs.
